All high schoolers and graduates are all too familiar with the traumatic experience of a young child being pushed into the deep end of a swimming pool. You find yourself submerged in what feels like an ocean - unlimited and overflowing with opportunity and space to move, but simultaneously, you are left to fend for yourself, no instruction, no help - just kick and swim.
It is undeniable that this is the reality of many young people today, as they emerge from the protective embrace of their parents and guardians and venture out into the real world. JA Australia therefore seeks to eradicate this by empowering the youth, presenting them with the various and diverse pathways they can embark upon to succeed in a global economy.
This is what JA Australia is, in my eyes - an extended helping hand for youths.
During my time with the organization on the first day as a marketing intern, I realized that the company was much more unique than what I had initially thought. I also realized just how closely the organization's values align with my own.
JA Australia works to promote the inclusivity of young people in an increasingly globalizing world of infinite opportunity. The organization works to solve the problem of youth unemployment through the provision of various programs to allow individuals to develop essential skills which will enable them to thrive in the world of business. Creativity, teamwork, critical thinking, management, collaborative skills are just a few of a myriad which is emphasized upon in mentoring programs and hackathons.
As a lost first year student myself, who was confused and lacked direction in what I wanted to do and what I wanted to be, I felt compelled and inspired to join and work for such a cause.
It is already evident in the organisation logo, an interlaced congregation of multi-colored triangles to symbolise interconnected learning, that JA is more than just another organisation for youth. JA Australia ultimately seeks to challenge conventional definitions of success. That is the one thing which I resonate with the most - the fact that there is never only one way to achieve a personal or organisational goal.
As a new and incoming marketing intern, I am excited to work with an incredible team who share the same vision as well as recognition of the potential of young people. Already within the first few hours, I have witnessed the what turns the cogs of this company - the delegation of roles, brief meetings, discussion of daily goals. I look forward to learning more about social media planning and gain project management experience and am keen on spreading the vision and philosophies of JA Australia alongside my team.
Over the coming weeks, I’m excited to challenge myself in this new professional environment, and I cannot wait to share it with you!
