Top employers look at more than grades. They look for evidence of innovation, problem solving, teamwork, and communication. If you can throw some international experience into the mix then that is the icing on the cake that our JA alumni Rodger Liang took on when he signed up for the FedEx Express/JA International Trade Challenge in 2017.

As "just another event or opportunity" for him to attend, Rodger had no idea that his participation would lead to a competition winning pitch that would take him and 5 other Australian ITC winners on an all expense paid trip to Singapore to compete in the Asia Pacific finals.

Rodger shared that "It's more than just an achievement to go on your resume, we had the opportunity to work with team mates from all over Asia and learn as much about myself and how I work with others, as I did learning about international trade itself."

By creating a market entry strategy as part of the competition, you’ll combine aspects of business such as pitching, marketing, product distribution, and innovation, all of which will be useful regardless of where your career takes you. Additionally, students have the privilege of being mentored by FedEx Express volunteers throughout the local workshops and the Asia Pacific finals.

“Before the ITC, I wasn’t interested in business at all. By participating in the program, a whole new world has opened up for me.”

“What I took away from the ITC program is that you have the potential to create something big, even if you are still young.”

ITC program provides you with the mentoring and resources to help you grown not just as a business person, but as a global citizen. It arms students with a first hand understanding that young people around the world are more similar than we are different, and that all truly great teamwork and collaboration starts with effective communication and a drive and passion to make a positive impact to our world and community.

As a community we have a responsibility to make sure that our young people are prepared for an increasingly global environment where communication and empathy is crucial.
